Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Instant Pot to buy?
You will find there are a ton of Instant Pots on the market. I recommend buying a 6 quart, or if a larger family reaches for an 8 quart. The 3-quart size is a great one for smaller recipes or side dishes. But most people enjoy a 6 quart.
Can you cook frozen meat in instant pot?
You can cook frozen meat in the Instant Pot! Just toss your meat in along with the other ingredients and keep the cooking time the same. It will take longer for your Instant Pot to come to pressure, but it will cook your meat just the same.
What is the difference between natural release and quick release?
The natural release and quick release of pressure can be very confusing. Natural release is when you allow the pressure cooker to release all the steam in the Instant Pot on its own. A quick release of pressure is when you take a spoon and push the valve and the steam quickly escapes. You will find recipes for pasta, rice, vegetables, etc all use a quick release. Meats and such will have a natural release of pressure. This helps tenderize your meat.
How long does it take a pressure cooker to come to pressure?
It can take up to 20 minutes for a recipe to come to pressure in the Instant Pot. Some only take 5-10 minutes and then the counting on your Instant Pot begins. It just depends on the ingredients used and how much. Frozen meats will always take around the 15-20 minute range to pressure up.
How much water do I add?
If you have a 6 quart Instant Pot you need at least 1 cup of liquid. If you have an 8-quart size pressure cooker you need at least around 1 1/2- 2 cups of liquid. Moreover just remember depending on the size of the pressure cooker depends on how much liquid is needed in the recipe.
